Amy Whinehouse, the Janis Joplin of the new generation, had a voice that weighted more than her physical frame. She had a pure solid voice that can carry over a heavy band. Sadly, we lost that voice due to her bouts of alcoholism. All we have is her music that will live on for generations. Tears Dry On Their Own is from her debut album Back To Black. The song samples the Motown classic, “Ain’t no mountain high enough.” Amy’s voice on the track is very somber which reflects a heartbreak experienced in the song. The song does gives a 60s love song feel to it and Amy’s voice gives that classic feel to it.
If I could classify this song, it would be THINKING ABOUT EX DURING MY DOWN TIME song.
R.I.P. Amy Whinehouse
